Just seen web-site and couldn't help feeling nostalgic. Attended boys school 1960-1965 before going to Harrow Tech. I remember Ray Pinch making us play cricket without gloves and Brian Chapman bowling and hitting my thumb - the pain and the blood still lives in my memory.

Comments:

I grew up in Kings Road with my parents and my sister Ann Fowler ( she was born 1939 and me in 1943).
In 1961 I joined the army and left the area. I eventually moved to Australia in 1974. I have visited my old stamping grounds a few times in the last 10 years and am surprised that, essentially, not a lot has changed except for the ethnicity of the whole area. My old friends were all lost to me after I joined the army and if anyone has any news of Ronald Broadley, Peter Baker or Jim Pugh I would be very grateful if you could email me.
Thanks Syd for an entertaining and well built website.

I remember Lock and Son where we used to buy our furniture and carpets.
We still have one of their carpets! - it is lasting well.
I remember the Timber Supplies that used to be next to the Sainsburys site.
I remember the cycle shop near South Harrow station - they began selling mopeds around 1968.
Woolworths of course has fond memories for me - replaced now by Poundland. There was the Express dairy which dissappeared around 1980. The Motor shop in Northolt Road used to sell marine items for sailing craft. I used this shop regularly when I built a small sailing dingy. There used to be about 4 bakeries, ABC, Lists, Coombes. There used to be 2 shoe shops. There used to be a very good material and linen shop roughly opposite Woolworths where you could buy material by the yard. Hartex, the camping shop and Bowmans bric-a-brac shops come to mind which I visited regularly.
Was it Budgens/Finefare? that existed where the Costa coffee shop is now. There was a florist shop on the corner of Northolt Parade where
