Started out in Deck Dept before transfering to the Print Shop in X-1 Div.

Just attended my first USS Saratoga reunion in Mobile Alabama. Great experience. Looking forward to 2022 in Washington, D.C. I encourage all my brother and sister shipmates to join the USS Saratoga Association and become life members. I was a dental tech and have connected with some of my shiipmates. We have had wonderful reunions. Blessed to have served with such fine men. We had a great department lead by Cmdr. Herr. He was a great man and leader. We had great dental care for the crew. Wonderful memories of my time on the ship and the ports we visited. Proud to have served at Yankee Station off the coast of Viet Nam. I am proud to be a Navy veteran. Was glad to get off that ship back in 75. But now I look back on that time as a growing up period for me. Had some great senior members in my division that I did not follow their leadership. Now I realize I missed out on some great experiences because I didnt follow their guildence. But I did finally find my Navy career as I retired with 20 years of which 13 were in the Navy TAR program. NO MORE HAZE GREY!!!!! I retired from Paccar in 2015 and now I am totally retired and enjoying my second hoby in scuba diving. Found out 4 years after I retired from the Navy that I was 90% disabled by VA. The VA could not believe I was discharged without a complete physical and interview with VA. But thats all paying off now, 90% VA comp plus Navy retirement plus 401k and Social Security, Life is good in retirement.

I walked on board the night before Sara left for Viet Nam, and got stationed at Cubi Point P.I. the day before Sara left to go home and dry dock. It is hard to believe it has been 45 years since I first laid eyes on her at 11:30p.m. April 10, 1972. I left the Pilippines in 1974 and got stationed on the Big E.
