Debbie Bond's "Blues without Borders' initiates you into her swampy blues syncopation with the funky electric "high Rider Blues" and never lets you go. In terms of tone "Winds of Change (2017), "That Thing Called Love" (2013), and "Enjoy the Ride (Shoals Sessions)" (2016)--her previous albums--helped establish her credentials.
Among my favorites are the the opening track as well as "Blue Rain" and "Shades of Blue". There is a classic soul blues groove captured in "Let me Be" that harkens back to the 70s without being stale. And the closing track "Road Song" is just a great way to end this album: "Gotta keep movin...leaving troubles behind..."

Just got my copy of Debbie Bond's new CD. Blues Without Borders is a major achievement, during this pandemic year! Well worth the wait. She and Rick have really worked hard and it shows. The group of musicians they have put together compliment their distinctive style. Sound is full and robust, with an awesome group of back up vocals, and percussion that really knocks me out. Love the rich sax players they share the stage with. I am amazed, but not surprised ! I love you guys , and can't wait to see you live ! Nancy Metzger

It was great to catch back up with you guys at Pepper Place Market this weekend. Still "crazy" good blues after 20 years following you. My wife and I love a little DB blues on a weekend in the kitchen.
I love to be on your mailing list.
Looking forward to next time. Any getting the Blues Without Borders CD.

Debbie, say you this past Sunday at Daniel Day's and had a wonderful time. You have amazing talent and an amazing life story. You should write a book!
Speaking of stories, I was having my raison bran cereal at breakfast this morning and as usual, I can't eat without something to read. So I picked up a copy of Alabama Heritage magazine from Fall of 2015 to read. Lo and behold in a article titled "Visions of the Black Belt" on page 38, there you are!!! Aliceville Freedom Creek Festival. I nearly dropped my spoon! Very Twilight zoneish!
Hopefully I will see you at Pepper Place this coming Saturday before you head across the big water.
In appreciation,
Charlotte Rush |
