I have never seen such a great group of people who care so much for each other and for the future of the new PALBUCCNEERS Drum & Bugle Corps. Your generosity and overall concern for the new Bucs is over whelming. I realize that you all understand and can easily relate to the amount of money and time it takes to get a corp up and working. You were there once yourselves and it shows in the way you reacted by attending the dinner or if unable to make it, the generous donations and gifts you gave from the heart. My granddaughter, Ashley, was so impressed with the warmth shown to her last night. She had a great time and was able to see first hand how the corp becomes a family. Ashley is currently the color guard captain for the new Bucs and she loves every minute of it. She works very hard to perfect herself and does the best she can for the corp. She spoke to many of you last night and learned quite a bit about drum corp life in the past and hopefully she can instill this in the future corps. Mike Marella and Carl Rodia have done such a wonderfull job in organizing the new Bucs and my hat goes off to them. Jack Sullivan and Dennis Banks are doing such a great job in teaching the kids drill. There are many other people who contribute to teaching the music, drums twice a week. They unselfishly give their time and efforts to help insure the success of this new corp. The ladies like Helen Rodia, Judy Marella, Linda Trotten-Shelby and AmyMarie have done so much to further the Bucss and I thank them. I again want to extend my thanks to all of you. You are making Ashleys dream come true and as a grandmother I couldnt ask for anything more. I am so very proud of all of you and especially of Ashley, she will make you all proud as will all the kids in the new jr. corp, they are a great bunch of kids. If you dont know him, he was a snare drummer in St. Raphaels Golden Buccaneers 61 to 63 and the Hurricanes 66 to 70. I tagged along to rehearsals and contests being 10 years younger than him and was called Little Donnelly Recently, at the end of April, my brother met up with some of the guys he competed with, and stories of Father Louie DeProfio were tossed around with Moose, Mike Barenowski, Malvin Clayburn and others, and it inspired me to take on a project about Father DeProfio starting the Golden Bucs and stories about the beginnings of the corp, kind of a Going My Way of drum corp. I was also surprised to here that Father D. was into Saint Don Bosco, and the work he did with getting kids off the streets, since Don Bosco is a long time favorite of mine. So they suggested to me to get in touch with Father DeProfio for an interview. My intention is to get as many stories as I can to put in book form and donate most of the proceeds of the book (minus expenses for publishing) to junior start-up corps in Connecticut or the tri-state area. With some of the contacts I have here in Toronto (Canada), and others in N.Y. and Calif. could possibly get a screenplay looked at. This would not only be a great tribute to Father DeProfio, but possibly and opportunity to raise some money for kids. So if any of you have a story to tell, and I hope that all of you do, please email me your thoughts, feelings, experiences, humorus, political, whatever, about Father Louie and other experiences in the Bucs. I also might be out for the Barnum Festval to try to connect with some of you. Man, what an opener in 1968. This is what I really miss about our beloved activity: Balls to wall type sound. I love the sound of those snares drums as opposed to the kevlar heads they use today. Hey did Andy Lisko march there? Im learning more and more each time I visit a web site. Lets keep tradition alive. Hopefully somewhere down the road we will reclaim our activity from the pirates who have usurped it and destroyed it. Go Golden Buccaneers. We will discuss the mission of the organization, its organizational structure, membership recruitment and some immediate goals. Among the goals will be to plan and conduct a successful and memorable Bucc’s sit-down reunion for sometime in early 2005. So far more than a dozen members have expressed interest in the Saint Raphaels’s Golden Buccaneers Alumni Association. We encourage all former members of the Buccaneers, Musketeers and Marrionettes to attend the meeting on May 24th and to be involved in this meaningful and continuing story.
