I have searched for a Shepherd Osborne connection for many years. On your page descendants of Hannah Osborne you have Polly Osborne married to John Shepherd. Also a sister named Mary. My husbands great grandmother, Louisa Shepherd Royce lists Mary Osborne and John Shepherd as her parents. Any connection? |

I stumbled onto your website while doing some family research on the Osborne's. My great-grandparents were John Garrett and Nellie Jane Matlock. Your site has been helpful and very interesting. Thank you for sharing your work! |

A great site..I remember my mom and dad talking about Harlen and the fighte. My mom's brothers and father were part of it and perhaps my dad as well. Does anyone recognize any of these names: Charlie Coffman, Charles Coffman, Raymond Coffman, Hobert Douglas, Bonnie Ruth Coffman, Annir Spicer Coffman. Thank you again for this site! |

I have tried emailing before.
I am proud to be a Coal Miners daughter, I was born in 1940 in Harlan, County, Ky.
My Dad Was Ap Hurley, he worked in the Chevrolet Mines, maybe in the late 30's. The mines closed up & our family moved to Central Fl.(no other work for daddy to do in Ky to raise his family).
I am enjoying the reading about all of these situations, being a kid, we never really realized what hard times were for all of the people.

I grew up at Ridgeway and my dad ClydePetrey Sr, He was a miner all of his life, and finally died from black lung in 1983 at the age of 78. I remember Highsplint when they were having a coal strike and lots of shootings took place, don't remember anyone being killed then ( 1964 or so). There were some Estes that lived near Tommy Robinson's bootleg joint between Ridgeway and Highsplint. Seems like there was Carl and David estes best I recall, don't remember thier parents names.. |
