Hi Sam,

Just writing this on behalf of the family, to let Horseshoes BC know that Larry Westman passed away suddenly on July 6, 2021. He is survived by his wife Vera, sons, Rick and Randy, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He struggled the last few years with Parkinson’s Disease, but was able to maintain his independence through it all.

Larry was a real gentleman’s horseshoe pitcher, a great competitor, and a good friend to the horseshoe community. He was an Honorary member of the Victoria Horseshoe club and was very involved in the club’s early days to make the Victoria club what it has become today. He will be missed by his many friends and family.

Best regards

Elaine Szostak

SAD NEW OF ELYSE BRUNNELLE PASSING. SHE WAS ONE OF THE GREATS. I HAD THE PLEASURE OF SERVING ON THE BCHA EXECUTIVE WITH HER. SHE WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP OUT ANY WAY SHE COULD. SHE COULD ALWAYS BE FOUND SCOREKEEPING, WORKING THE BCHA TENT DURING OUR TWO MAJOR TOURNAMENTS EACH YEAR.

WE HAVE MANY FOND MEMORIES OF ELYSE. I REMEBER INTRODUCING HER TO SLIVOVICA, FINDING HER MISPLACED HORSEHSOES AT THE BC'S IN PENTICTON, THE "MERRITT" WEEKEND, BREAKING INTO HER CAR WHEN SHE LOCKED HERSELF OUT, AND HER GENUINE LOVE OF THE GAME.

The Interior / Kootenay / North Championships will be held in Kamloops on Saturday Sept 7. There will be $1000 in added money. That should get a few of you out of the woodwork.

The Entry deadline is Sept 5. I have forwarded the poster from the Kamloops Club to all clubs in the region from which pitchers are eligible to participate.

Good Luck to All!!!!!!

Good Luck to all in Abbotsford this weekend.

Sam has asked me to take pics of all the groups as they are called on Saturday as well as group shots of all pitchers from each club.

After attending two tournaments this season I have noticed a trend. More & more pitchers are not wearing club shirts. When asked most were not aware they should or didn't care. When a new member joins this could be mentioned.

Also the amount of smoking that goes on, on the courts, in scorekeeping areas, and on club grounds is rediculous. And not just cigarettes. In Winfield the Regional District has banned Smoking (Cigs & Pot) and Vaping anywhere on their Properties including parking lots. I would hope that Clubs would set up a smoking area, if allowed in their municipality, and enforce it's use.
